Why I Hate Shopping at Smith's

Details

Supermarket chains have long been bad actors; even when they try to be good they end up being bad, becaue Animal Farm mimics real life. But Smith's takes bad to a whole new level, and I've just about had it with them.

Coupons

Smith's "app" is a disaster, and their pricing systems are designed to be confusing and to make customers pay more than they should have ti pay. They have a loyalty card that you scan at checkout, but that's not enough to get the sales. They have digital "coupons' that you have to clip on the app or you don't get the prices. There's fine print on every sale; sometimes you have to buy 2, or you have to buy 5. Sometimes it's pickup or delivery only, where you have to pay a fee for those services. So the item really isn't on sale.

Adding insult to injury, they seem to block 5G in their stores, so you can only connect to their WiFi. Sometimes I can't connect to the app to clip the coupon. It's just a pain in the Ass to shop at this place.

Pickup

They charge $4.95 for pickup, so any "deals" they send you that are pickup only are really just scams; they won't give you the price if you don't pay the fee. Pickup is the latest scam by Grocery stories; they want to "sub out" stuff that nobody buys. And they often don't have stock on items on sale. So if you do pickup and you tell them not to sub "a simliar item", you pay the fee, and then you find they don't have half of the items you want. You can't buy produce or meat this way unless you want some min wage working picking out your produce.

Phamracy

If you buy something in the pharmacy; even something like cough drops or aspirin, you have to pay at the pharmacy register. There's often a line, and if you have.a cart full of stuff (or there's someone in front of you with a lot of items) it can be a real pain.

Fake Offers and Store Consistency

My app often says the store has an item they don't have, and some items they don't carry at all stores. So I'll get an offer for something at one store I go to, but if I go to a different store they don't carry the item at that store.

Crappy Sale Prices

Many times their sale prices aren't at low as Walmart's regular prices. They charger $1.25 more for the coffee I guy, and even when it's on sale its 50 cents more than Walmart. Lots of things I guy are never on sale, so I have to go to multiple stures every week.

Kroger Meats Suck

Smith's is owned by Kroger, and Kroger brand meats (sausage, meatballs, etc) are loaded with fillers and other bad stuff. I've bought some other Kroger brand stuff that I didn't like. I don't really consider Kroger brand itsms to be an option for anything.

Self Checkout is a POS (Piece of Shit)

Their self checkout systems are programmed by Monkeys and leave you with a bad tast in your mouth as you leave. Store "sales" are shown when you scan the item, but coupons (even if you've clipped them previously) don't show up until you clip "Pay Now". So you have to hit pay now, then go back to review to see if they gave you the discount. It's another way they try to rip you off. Also, when you put you CC in, it will take the charge, but the POS doesn't detect it. So you have to press the buttons even after the payment has been approved. They are the worst systems of any store I go to.

Conslution

Stores like Walmart and Publix in other parts of the country have straight-foward pricing without all the tricks and coupons that are designed to get you in the store but they try not to give you the price. Kroger/Smith's is run by marketing midgets who expect you to sift through literally 10s of coupons on your phone, read the fine print and remember which coupons you've clipped when you're in the store.

It's a disaster from head to toe
