Critic's Review
The Sicilian Ristorante re-branded themselves as a Pizzeria a couple of years ago and I've been meaning to try it. Problem is, my pizza night has historically be on Sunday, and this place is closed on Sundays and Mondays. So if you're looking for a stack of pies for your NFL watch party, you'll have to find something else. They also only have 16" pizza; Real Pizzas are 18", somewhere along the line people accepted 21% less food for the same money. Yes, my friends, a 16" pizza is 21% smaller than an 18" pizza.
You can order online, but I don't like paying in advance.I like to order on the phone, old school. "Large cheese pizza to pick up. Name is Pizza Guy". And you're done.
Pleasant on the phone, the guy says "20 minutes". 30 minutes later I walk into the front counter area.
One person ahead of me, the guy puts my pizza on the counter. "$19.51" I give him my card.
He asks me if I want chilies. I tilt my head. He says it again. I say "Chilies?" (we call these crushed pepper back East). I'm thinking something else. I mention oregano and he suddenly understands. No oregano on the pizza here.
Not a bad looking pizza. I reviewed 100+ pizzas back east, and I can tell what it is from looking at it. Nothing crazy here; just cheese and crust and enough sauce to bind it together. I wasn't going to eat this until later, but I tried a slice. Pretty good. You just taste good cheese. A tad chewy, but this was going to be good. The 2 containers of sawdust (ie parmesan cheese) went in the garbage, obviously.
My plan was to add pepperoni; I don't like ordering it on the pizza because 1) they charge too much and 2) sometimes they put too much on, or it's too greasy, or they have the ones that cup and I don't like those. But my pepperoni was spoiled, or appeared strange and my chatGPT warned me not to eat it. So I had to make some sausage. The proper way to do it would be to sous vide it at 160 degrees, ice bath it, then refrigerate it overnight and slice it very thin. But I didn't have time to refrigerate it. It came out pretty good.
I also sprinkled a bit of oregano on the pizza and reheated the slices on my pizza stone.
I ate 7 slices, no crusts. 4 slices with sausage. If I ate that much, it was pretty good.
