Critic's Review
Stephano's sets a new low bar in casual dining; from their inaccurate online menu to the over priced food to the nickel and diming on ingredients.I ordered on their web site so it would be ready when I got there; this is a "digital only" location so there is no place to wait if you order in. Their menu says that if you order a sandwich and a side, you get a drink; "Make it a combo" it says. But there was no way to order this on the web site. I figured they'd just give me the drink, which is when most places do.
When I got here there's just a sign that say "Don't come In" and a closed window. No People. I waited for a couple of minutes hoping someone would see me; nothing. I banged on the window. Still nothing.
While I was waiting I marveled at the menu they had taped to a table. Noticed they've blocked out the part of the menu that says "Make it a Combo"; Great, not only is it $14 for what should be a $10 combo, they don't give you the drink.
A couple of minutes more and a dude opened the window".I told him the name I used to place the order and he handed me a bag; it was sitting by the window the entire time.
I checked the bag in the car; always check a take out order before you go home. Everything seemed to be in order.
I nibbled on the fries on the way home, and they're very good fries. Salty, crisp. I didn't really want the fried but I thought I was getting a combo.
When I opened the package, you can imagine my disappointment. This is a really bad looking Gyro.
These are the onions you put on a hot dog, and the tiny chopped tomato bits are not worthy of a good Greek gyro.
Here's the description on the menu.
These are not red onions. I tasted the meat and it didn't taste like traditional gyro meat. I wondered if they even gave me the lamb/beef meat. How would I be able to tell? They nickel and dimed me on the onions and tomatoes; why not the meat too.
I had nice tomatoes and red onion in the fridge so why not fix it up? Not too difficult to scrape off the crap and add better ingredients.
Unfortunately, the tzatziki wasn't very good, and with the bad meat there was really now point in eating this. I at half of it then decided to park the rest of the calories in the garbage can.
On the bright side, the fry sauce they provided was quite good; a bit of a kick elevated good fries to something even better. The fries did not hold up as they cooled; they diminished in quality as they cooled and I didn't even get to finish them.
