Critic's Review
I was in the mood for a Teco and almost pulled the trigger on Taco Bell. I looked at a couple of nearby places; one wanted $5.79 for a taco and the other got some bad reviews for their $4.50 tacos. Was I really going to spend $10 for 2 street tacos? This I came across this place. Their web site is parked. The last post on their facebook page: July 24, 2020. The last menu i could find was years old. I though I'd take a chance.
At 2:40 the place was sparsely populated. There's a register in the corner that says "Order Here". Check. There are no printed menus; only the TV screens. I wanted to try the Birria Taco, and also an Al Pastor. But there is no Al Pastor taco on their menu.
I went to the register hoping the girl spoke English.
"Do you have Al Pastor tacos"?She punched something into the register without answer.
"I want 1 Al Pastor and 1 Birria Taco". ""Do you want Cheese on the Birria"Ok. Nowhere anywhere is taco tuesday mentioned.Maybe advertise it a bit? I can't complain about a free taco.
"Yes"
"You get 2 Al Pastor today. It's taco Tuesday"
There were 3 orders in front of mine; they make one at a time. I checked out the condiment cart. Just salt and ketchup. No Salsa or Hot Sauce..This is what you get for $3.25 per taco today.
Finally it was ready. Tacos are fast so I ate in. There was a table in the back.
With no printed menu (and Al Pastor tacos not even on the menu), I had no idea what I was getting.
The Al Pastor tacos were slathered with a green crema. The tacos were surprisingly bland.
"Birria" is a stew, so I wondered what the taco would be like.
Apparently they use the stew meat on the taco; again very bland (do they have salt in Mexico?), even the cheese was tasteless.
Despite m y claim of blandness, the tacos weren't bad. I'm not sure I've ever had a great taco in America; they seem to either be afraid to use spices, or they don't know how to use them.
The price is right; 3 tacos under $8.
